Dear Sponsors,
We have been sending out monthly updates but
have just realized that our address list in AOL did not have all of our
sponsor's emails. Please forgive us if you have not been getting these
updates. Here is a copy of March's email.
First of all, thank you so much for being a
part of our orphan sponsorship program! The orphans of Teze-Ngie are getting
the supplies, education and medicine they need to better their lives
because of generous sponsors like you!
The Hearts for Cameroon Committee at St. John's (www.heartsforcameroon.org) is
so thankful to all of you for your generous support and prayers.
UPDATE:
As you recall, our donations go to ASODI (www.asodi.org), the organization that helps
orphans and epileptics in Teze-Ngie,
Cameroon. Our
last quarterly donation was over $2000! ASODI has been able to
professionally train orphans and get more help from doctors in figuring out
the cause of the epilepsy epidemic. Here is the latest message from
ASODI's president Ambanibe Jerome Akeneck, whom we know as
“Jerome”:
"Dear All,
Top of heart greetings to you.
After serious trainings with ASODI'S Staff by the Catholic
Relieve Services, forms have been dispatcehd to ASODI for evaluation and needs
assessment of its Orphans and Volnurable chilldren in Ngie sub division. The
new partners Catholic Relieve Services wants to identify the most needy OVC
AS WE Abreviate it and sponsor 146 for ASODI in Ngie.
These ovcs shall be taken care of in Health,Education and
Nutrition. After the survey, funds will be disbursed for the wellbeing before the
end of March 2007.In addition, some of the OVC'S who have completetd Primary
schools shall be sopnsored/trained in Hairdressing,Capentery,Agriculture and
Mechanics by the same Catholic Relieve Services Cameroon.
So all the coordinators are now carrying out the identification
in the 19 villages of Ngie.
In a semilar story, the Ministry of Public Health Cameroon
dispatched a Public Health Medical Officer Dr. Rogers Kuotong Nongho to
the North West Province over the weekend to assess
the level of non Communicable diseases in the Province.
While at Bamenda,DR.Kuotong was referred to meet me in Ngie and
in Mbegwi so that l can give him an apraisal of Epilepsy in Momo
Division which we have written to the Minisrty several years ago to look
into.
While in Mbengwi,we worked harmonising some of the
managerial skills of Epilepsy from Monday to Thursday with Dr. Kuotong .He
collected all the matrials and Statistics that we have been gathering over
the years on Epilepsy, our manner of approach, difficulties, recommendations
,the drugs we use how we use them, when we do administer them, results and how
often we do administer them.
He was however so happy to seeing in to it that we adopt a
scincetific approach and the manner in which we are managing the epilepsy.
He said.that the Government wants to train Nurses and Doctors
who will be working/managing Epilepsy in Cameroon and that the
Government wants to know how many people have epilepsy so that they can
import some new drugs that can be used in its treatment and these drugs
innitially will be sold cheapper for some time then they shall
later be given free of charged after a long period of trial.
ASODI has been given the pride of place to send a nurse who
shall be trained at the National Management of Epilepsy and they say the
training will go operational late this year.
On our obituary page,ASODI has lossed two of her Epileptic
Orphans/Patients last week. They are Ambenjoh Emelda and Ukum Ubeno. They
all come from Andek Ngie.
May their souls rest in perfect peace.
May God belss us all and grant us wisdom to care for his people.
Jerome."
