St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, California, USA (www.stjohnspres.org) has developed a program to allow US residents to sponsor an orphan in the Ngie area.  This program works in conjunction with the Association for Orphans and Disabled Individuals (ASODI), a non-profit organization headquartered in Teze-Ngie.  ASODI provides assistance for orphans and epileptic patients in 19 different villages.  St. John’s work with ASODI will initially focus on the needy in the village of Teze and hopefully grow to encompass the other 18 villages.

Donors can choose from two ways to help:

·     Make a one-time donation.

·     Join the sponsorship program and make a continuing commitment to help.

One-time donations can be made in honor of a friend or relative, and gift cards are available with information about the program.

Participation in the sponsorship program will involve two commitments.  The first is a financial commitment, in an amount of the donor’s choosing, which can be funded monthly or annually in a check payable to St. John’s.  Each donor is asked to make a minimum monthly commitment to ensure a reliable flow of funds to the orphans in the village.

The second commitment is a more personal one.  Each donor will begin a pen-pal relationship with an orphan from the village.  The donor will receive a photo of one of the orphans and agrees to write to that child periodically.  To avoid the inadvertent disclosure of donors’ addresses, all return correspondence from the orphans will be sent to the church address, where it will then be distributed to the donors.

All funds raised go to the care of orphans in the Ngie area.  The funds raised go to pay for the orphans’ school expenses, such as books, uniforms, supplies and occasionally tuition.  In addition, it supplements the food and medical supplies of the orphans.

You can sign up for the program by filling out our web form.  You will receive a sponsorship card with information about the orphan you will be sponsoring and a return envelope to send your donation.
